Eimhin Farrell - Visual Artist
Bio
Hi! My name is Eimhin (Evan) Farrell, an artist from Castleblayney, County Monaghan, Ireland. Having studied at NCAD from 2015-2018, I work as a professional artist specialising in printmaking, specifically etching, and drawing. I have been a member of the renowned Black Church Print Studio in Dublin since 2018.
As a big fan of traditional intaglio printmaking, I aim to recapture the aesthetic of 16th-19th century etchings and engravings in my prints but with a contemporary twist.
Major influences include Albrecht Durer, Giovanni Battista Piranesi and Gustave Doré.
Artist Statement
I aim to bring the aesthetic of traditional intaglio printmaking into modern printmaking, with a contemporary twist. The everyday world is where I derive my influence for making work, be this in the form of natural phenomena, the man-made world or society in general.
The etching process is but the artistic technique I enjoy using the most, without much significance to me personally other than having been personally mesmerised, as a teenager, learning of the works of Durer.
Overall, portraying elements or the world around me in the medium I love is what I am passionate about, and dedicate every ounce of my soul to on a daily basis.
